We make SERIOUS music…SERIOUSLY.
The music video for “Weightless” by All Time Low exemplifies Dame Margot Fonteyn’s quote, “Take your work seriously, but never yourself.” The song lyrics discuss a serious subject, getting older and not doing anything worthwhile with life. The video, however, pokes fun at the whole pop-punk music scene.
The video addresses every major stereotype that one encounters at a show, such as the “band slut”, the guy with the “embarrassing tattoos (that) will last forever”, and the people that think their band is more like “All Time Blow”. The video even features Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy and Mark Hoppus of Blink 182, considered by many to be the father and grandfather, respectively (haha sorry, Mark…) of the current pop-punk scene. Their appearance in the video suggests that the pop-punk scene is lighthearted with a slight competitive air, but one that never obscures the fact that everyone is just in it to have a good time and make music for their own enjoyment.
This fun-loving atmosphere makes the pop-punk scene one of the most enjoyable. The artists take their music seriously, but they don’t take the concept of the scene as seriously as some of their fans. And that’s just refreshing.
